Congratulations to customers Duncan and Anne-Marie Wells, Otago farmers who were recently won the top award in the 2015 Dairy Business of the Year competition.
The national competition gives farmers an independent and comprehensive analysis of their entire farming operation – examining systems within their dairy business over the last full financial year.
Competition judges said the Wells’s farm performance was
“outstanding with a superb operating profit and return on capital. This is a result of good cost allocation making a higher revenue than the district top 10 percent with equal expenses…..Overall the KPIs show great business control.”
On their 181 effective hectare farm, Duncan and Anne-Marie Wells milk 620 cows and produce 296,044kg milk solids – or 477kg MS per cow. Their stocking rate is 3.5 cows per ha and their return on capital was 12.9 percent.
